Romeo Hunte: A Contemporary Interpretation of Winter Streetwear

Combine winter temperatures with a little bit of street, mix it up and you get the magnificent creations of fashion designer Romeo Hunte.

Brooklyn, NY native Romeo Hunte pursued his dream of becoming a fashion designer by ditching two full-ride college athletic scholarships to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. In January of 2014, Hunte launched his fashion line. What was then a premature fashion line would soon come to grow into a successful company appearing in some of the most notable fashion events.

Hunte’s innovative fashion designs combine the casual coolness of modern streetwear mixed with the basic clothing item necessities used during freezing winter temperatures. From jackets to blazers, and even ponchos, Hunte designs all of the pieces to keep you warm in the bitter cold of the season. Hunte has a sort of pragmatic approach to his pieces in terms of use (i.e. his signature cashmere shearling hood shawl), while keeping a consistent intricate, modern, contemporary aesthetic about his works.

Hunte’s creations have been showcased in one of the most recognized week-long fashion events— New York Fashion Week. In early February 2020, Hunte’s 2020 Fall/Winter collection debuted during NYFW. Hunte’s collections have also appeared during NYFW in the years 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Hunte also attended the 2015 and 2016 Met Gala. Hunte’s pieces have appeared on celebrities such as Zendaya and Beyoncé to name a few.

Hunte’s concept and execution of all of his pieces are magnificent—he yields the concept of winter streetwear as his works are practical to wear with a sort of abstraction about them while having the modern appeal of high-end, luxurious fashion. Hunte’s work deserves to be noticed, credited and displayed for the sheer uniqueness and attractiveness that they possess.
