Best-Seller ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ is Coming to the Big Screen

In the era of “new money,” Rich Kids of Instagram, and popular celebrity children, we suspect that Crazy Rich Asians will be a hit in theaters. The best-selling book, written by Kevin Kwan in 2013, has released their luxurious first trailer of the movie adaptation, set to release in the States in August 2018.

The comedy narrates the story of Rachel, an Asian-American young woman, and her Singapore-born boyfriend of over a year, Nick. The clip kicks off with Nick asking Rachel to meet his family in Singapore, but little did she know how much of a treat—an expensive one at that—she was in for.

“You really should have told me you’re like the Prince William of Asia,” Rachel Chu, portrayed by Constance Wu, says.

“That’s ridiculous,” Nick, Henry Golding’s character, responds. “I’m much more of a Harry.”

Born in a prominent Singapore family, Nick keeps his “comfortable” lifestyle tastefully under the radar. That same comfortable living catches his girlfriend off-guard to the same caliber of his off-putting and protective mother, Eleanor Young, played by Michelle Yeoh.

“I know this much,” Eleanor says to a timid Rachel. “You will never be enough.”

Ouch.

The story showcases an entirely new level of opulence and extremely chic society that can only be imagined, seen on E!, or liked on Instagram. And the best part of the movie isn’t even going to be just the fashion and drama, it’s the fact that the movie is completely cast with talent from the Asian community. It’s about time that marginalized communities— all of them—are getting the recognition they deserve.

So, who’s going to the premiere with us in August?
