The Black Renaissance

From young, Black women are taught that we are our ancestors wildest dreams

We sacrifice our lives for the next generation of Black women to rise

We live every moment as if we are making history

To walk in tradition, but also to redefine

We are living in the new Black Renaissance, as Black culture spreads through waves of the web

We are changing our story, by changing the storytellers

Moving beyond not only our struggle, but also to harness the power of our joy

We can be beautiful and ornate and gracious—and be black too

Though we are far from finished, we are building the world we always knew

Change doesn’t happen from dusk to dawn, it is built on the backs of our predecessors strides

We as black women are here for way beyond this moment in time

We were always queens of earth, even though the rest of the world just laid their eyes
