Gingham? I Hardly Knew Him!

One thing I love about gingham is that it’ll never go away. Originating in Malaysia, it’s been around forever, but it became popularized by the Dutch and English in the 18th century. Since then, you can see this easily recognizable pattern from iconic costume designs like Dorothy’s blue gingham dress in Wizard of Oz to 50’s newspaper pages advertising the new fashion trend as “gingham”.

While we can all acknowledge that gingham has been around forever, we have definitely seen a resurgence of it lately. By resurgence, I mean I’m obsessed, you’re obsessed, we’re all obsessed. I believe with the past rise of “cottage core” and current obsession with Sandy Liang, the playful pattern has found its new place in the world on the shoulders of people looking to embrace their inner child and feel confident and classic.

I’m in my gingham era and I feel a need to project it, so here is, “Gingham? I hardly knew him!”
