Students Seek Career Opportunities with URBN

The room was crowded with students eager to obtain their dream internships at the URBN information session on Tuesday. It is clear why a job within the brand is so popular; you get hands-on experience with a creative company and the office has not one, not two, but three dog parks?

URBN houses well-known brands like Urban Outfitters, Free People and Anthropologie. But also some lesser-known ones including wedding retailer, BHLDN, and the newly added clothing subscription company, Nuuly. Ten week internship positions in each brand include styling, photography, design, marketing and many more.

Two representatives from URBN, Brooke and Jules, explained what life is like at the Philadelphia campus and the process of how to obtain these coveted spots. They began with a video of the headquarters and their connection to the city. The extensive buildings itself boasts

facilities such as a dye lab and photo studio. Spacious office space, trendy on-site food, weekly markets and intern-only special events were also featured.

It won’t be all fun and games though; the job is, in fact, a job. Brooke highlighted opportunities at URBN to have “coffee-talks” with full-time leaders in the company and present an internship project to executives. Interns are treated like real employees, working at a quick pace, three seasons ahead of time.

Sound like the perfect fit? Students or recent graduates who would like to apply for an internship must first select their desired position. Applications should be submitted for only one position, but representatives may direct towards another posting that they believe is more suitable. Many include a creative project component very similar to assignments from classes here at SCAD. Next, candidates will be asked to complete a Hirevue video interview, where questions are written out and followed by a self-recorded answer. If selected, you will be notified near November 22 and invited to Interview day on December 12 and 13 at the home office.

Although the positions are highly competitive, a handful of students from SCAD are brought onboard as interns and full-time employees. The meeting ended with some SCAD students reminiscing from their past summer experiences with URBN, giving everyone else in the room major internship FOMO.
