The Capital of Quirk

Cute, bright, quirky, and colorful, Harajuku puts all the fun in fashion. Harajuku fashion was born in the streets of Harajuku, Japan, where people began ignoring the norms established by popular fashion trends through various styles and layers. The beauty of Harajuku is in its diversity in looks while keeping a unique aesthetic.

What placed Harajuku street fashion in the public scene was Fruits Magazine. Published in 1997 by photographer Shoichi Aoki, Fruits Magazine showcased the different subcultures of fashion found in Japan’s streets. From lolita to goth, the Harajuku style represents and expresses a vast range of aesthetics and fashion. What sets Harajuku fashion apart is not just the clothing itself, but the attitude of fearless experimentation and self-expression that accompanies it. It’s a celebration of individuality, creativity, and the freedom to be whoever you want to be.
