More than the Face: Nécessaire Takes Skincare All Over

We all know how important it is to have a set skincare routine. Facial care comes first, as we’ve been told for so long by the skincare industry. But what about the rest of our bodies? Why are we not as concerned about the other 7.5 pounds of skin? This is where Nécessaire comes in.

Nécessaire started with the idea that the first step in personal care starts with body care. I first heard about this brand in 2018, when their Instagram still had only 1,000 followers. Founded by Randi Christiansen, a former vice president at Estée Lauder, and Into the Gloss co-founder Nick Axelrod, Nécessaire runs on the principle that any personal products you use should be just as clean and natural as your body itself.

In my opinion, a smaller, more curated and loved selection of products can have just as much profit as a wide collection, but this especially happens if said company’s products are as user-appealing as Nécessaire’s.

So, what are these three products? The Body Wash, the Sex Gel, and the Body Lotion. Both the Body Lotion and the Sex Gel come fragrance-free, but the Body Wash can be infused with sandalwood or eucalyptus essential oils, according to your preference. All of these are designed with the body’s pH levels in mind. Their belief is that using body products should not only clean your body but balance your skin, which is something many people don’t think about. ‘

Another one of the brand’s core values is its “Yes List” and “No List.” These lists give their consumers an inside look at the company’s production process. For me, Nécessaire’s willingness to be transparent about their products and share their values and beliefs has made me all the more willing to shell out a little more than I usually would for these products. This just goes to show that if you’re transparent about your process and care about the health of your consumer base, you’ll be rewarded.

Still not convinced that you’ll love Nécessaire? Here’s one last thing. All of their packaging is made up of reused, recyclable forest products. No newly harvested trees go into the making of their packaging or labeling. Nécessaire is slowly but surely creating a skincare industry that is sustainable, responsible and, most importantly, transparent.
