Ground Zero

High school halls have been ground zero for subcultural evolution. Throughout the decades, stoners have stood against the cultural shuffle of time. Megring through cliche, stoners have shared one common interest, weed.

Since the 60s, weed has found its way into all sorts of American life, especially the lives of young people. Popularized, and stigmatized by the hippies and their “flower power”, the word stoner has usually been followed by a negative connotation. The war on drugs demonized avid smokers as “stupid & lazy” stereotyping them and their culture for decades to come.

Recently marijuana has been removed from the “D.A.R.E.” list and become increasingly popular recreationally. Decriminalization and legalization are growing popular in states across the country, and pretty soon we might see nationwide acceptance of bud. For now “weed culture” will continue to burn its way into social settings and smoke out the outdated beliefs surrounding it.
