A lone wolf wanders far from home,
No howl escapes its silent throat,
Just echoes of longing as stillness has grown.
A hawk soars high across the sky,
No screech to pierce the quiet night,
Just wings that beat to only get him nigh.
Auburn fur seeks but cannot see,
A fox darts through the shadows free,
But her paw prints tell a harrowed tale:
God’s put feet beneath her, man has them to fail.
Dream of freedom, of uncharted lands,
If your mind is still the control of your hands.
Though fangs may gnash and talons dive,
May dreams not whisper their final sighs.
In Wastelands, vultures circle low,
No song breaks the deathly hush;
Hunger gnaws at the bones that show.
Dreams of escape, in the unforgiving wild,
I lurk, in sight, wearing no hide.
