Rococo Realness: Sandy Liang FW26

With one look, Sandy Liang already had everyone wrapped around her finger with her uniquely fantastical designs. The brand’s most recent Fall/Winter 2026 collection at New York Fashion Week was hugely inspired by Marie Antoinette with 18th-century style extravagance, ruffles, puffy shoulders, crystal-adorned silhouettes, and ribbons, embodying Rococo modernism.

The result? A magical, historically-inspired, slumber party formula, full of the brand’s signature nostalgia and inner child. The collection also held a theatrical energy, like playing dress-up with the most extraordinary designs, sparking a fun and youthful energy in the audience. This childlike energy was also inspired by Studio Ghibli’s film, “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, leading to Liang’s inclusion of midi dresses and apron inspired design. The first look, a  powder-pink ruffled mini dress with a bow and a dramatically large white pocket was paired with fur trimmed flats with a pink bow placed on the front resembling children’s house slippers. The brand’s classic blazers were also included in this collection with rounded  asymmetrical buttons, fur trim, and bows.

Almost every look was an example of Liang’s attention to detail through her unique styling, like her choice to layer gray longjohns under long pencil skirts, ankle socks, and bow-decorated heels. Both of which are some of the brand’s staples, previously seen in the Fall/Winter 2025 collection designed in floral prints and colorful graphics, but for this collection, the longjohns were designed in a light gray color, and the pencil skirts were tweed, satin, and fleece. But the real star of the show was the bunny slippers heels. With white fluffy facades, bunny ears, and a blue bow, through this design, Liang elevated this simple materialization of girlhood into high fashion artistry.

Although people have begun to get bow fatigue, I am convinced that Liang is one of the few designers who can always find a way to elevate them. There were bows of all sizes, with one pink mini dress being completely covered in them. But my favorite fabrication was the long bows that adorned the yellow and navy bomber jacket and pencil skirt sets, with one attached to the back of the skirt, trailing behind the model as she walked down the runway. If Marie Antoinette were a fashion enthusiast today, she would be enjoying a slice of cake in one of these mini dresses and bunny slipper heels.
