“Behave Girls!” “Don’t be too rough” “That’s not very ladylike.” Phrases we’ve all grown too familiar with. Play Nice. Something many young girls are told to conform to is being pleasant and agreeable. But what comes from being told over and over again to play nice? Rebellion. Our forms of rebellion are expressed in various ways. Stereotypically getting a piercing, wearing dark makeup, dyeing our hair, and so many more. These rebellions showcase who we are at that moment in time. Whether it’s looking back on your grunge phase, looking in the mirror at it, or typing your next tattoo appointment into your calendar. All we want to do as people is be seen and find like-minded creatives to who we can relate to. Our own physical representations of rebellion draw us to those that are similar. We will defy society’s social norms, and we refuse to be the proper and agreeable girls they want us to be!
