I don’t know what fool decided that blue was for boys and pink was for girls. I do know that the designers of Spring/Summer 2020 putting their beautiful boys in bright fuschia is the rebellion we all needed. From men hopping out of taxis to attend Louis Vuitton to male models strutting at MSGM, the striking color is hard to miss.
Despite its boldness, the trend is surprisingly easy for men to pull off, imagined in playful suiting or sleek athleisure. For hesitant fellows, pink accessories like beanies and sunglasses are an easier wardrobe adjustment.
The tone most likely derives from its successful sister, Millennial Pink. Millennial Pink took over the world of technology, interiors and fashion, proving itself to be a 21st-century staple. What started as a fondness for a few, grew to a society accustomed to a rose-covered world. This left room for pink to be used in new territories and forms, more daring than before.
Enter, men proudly sporting pink. Certainly, all men won’t be wearing bubblegum-based looks tomorrow, and pink will continue to be paired with femininity, at least for now. However, a move in a direction where colors and shapes are not defined by gender is as exciting as the color itself.
