He’s Everything in the Suit: the Effortless Style of Andrew Garfield

With great power comes great stylistic responsibility. Andrew Garfield has never shied away from making a memorable statement with his iconic outfits. He and his stylist, Warren Alfie Baker, have a close relationship after several years of working alongside one another for every party, gala, and award show Garfield attends. Baker brings a classy vintage flair to every look. Through various colors, textures, and lapel styles, Baker creates notable, chic outfits while maintaining traditional silhouettes.

Award shows are renowned for their red carpets graced by hundreds of men in plain black suits always outshined by their female counterparts. Garfield is one of the few consistent exceptions. One of his most notable outfits, in my arrogant opinion, was his double-breasted burgundy velvet Saint Laurent suit paired with a black western bow tie worn at the 2022 Oscars. He not only outdid every man in attendance but arguably most of the women as well. Velvet Saint Laurent and Andrew Garfield go together like Spider-Man and the inability to talk to women. As seen also at the Critics Choice Awards in 2022, he wore a custom Saint Laurent suit paired with a shimmering forest green and gold button-up. 2022 was quite the shining year for Baker x Garfield collaborations and The Independent Spirit Awards was no exception. With a purple Valentino suit with matching glasses and brown slacks, Baker proves colors are genderless and can accentuate anyone’s features. While the glasses were notable, pairing purple and brown is difficult for many, but Baker makes it look easy all the while referencing iconic 70s styles. Speaking of retro outfits, Garfield turned heads in his western-inspired silk Amiri look with white loafers at the Deadline Contenders Show last year. Which further proves Garfield knows how to make a statement on the red carpet.

When Andrew Garfield is not being honored for one of his many notable achievements, he walks the streets with class. While attending Valentino’s Ready to Wear Show, Garfield blocked colors perfectly with a cherry-pink jacket and a rust-colored blouse. Statement colors are a staple of Garfield’s fashion show looks. Baker styled him in a layered half-zip bright red ribbed sweater for the Loewe show in Paris.

Fangirling over his style has been one of my favorite pastimes for years and I am thrilled to see what Baker and Garfield will create next. Here’s to the best Spider-Man and the best dressed.
