Each year at schools around the world, fashion students design and create senior collections unique to who they are and the stories they want to tell. They put their blood, sweat, and tears into collections that inspire, and set the tone for fashion’s future. From a distance, it’s easy to assume 2024’s graduating class at SCAD is no different, but upon a closer look, it is clear they are unlike anyone else.
For many of 2024’s graduates, their college experience began in their childhood bedrooms, or in a dorm room all alone. After graduating high school from their living rooms or in makeshift drive-by ceremonies, their education has seen far more than its fair share of obstacles.
With COVID-19 being just one of many societal disruptions that Gen Z has grown so accustomed to, these students have known chaos their whole lives. Beyond the larger global events, each student carries with them a unique and personal story. In their senior collections, they explored concepts of self, mobility, rest, transition, censorship and representation, and so much more. Though their class can be marked by their sheer resilience, what truly stands out is not their ability to persevere, but their monumental talent.
They were tasked to create amidst the chaos, and oh did they deliver.
