Cause of Death: Overdressed

Before our fixations with maximalism, there was minimalism and the fashion faux pas of dressing far more elaborate than occasions called for. Nobody bats an eye at the layers upon layers we drape over our bodies once the weather drops. Come winter; the excess is acceptable. Necessary, even. Then there are people who will compromise the little warmth a jacket could provide to keep every button open—all for a curated exchange where everyone could see the outfit not meant for winter. There can’t be any harm in adding one more layer.  One more accessory, one more coat, one more hat. Satisfying a desire to dress with puffy silhouettes embellished in textures. Adding more and more and more until your own garment turns against you. What’s stopping us from overwhelming ourselves in the name of fashion? Perhaps fear for the moment our maximalism suffocates us.
