It’s summer, which means everyone wants a sunkissed glow. However, the sun, while good at providing the perfect selfie light during golden hour, is harmful to exposed skin. Supergoop, founded by Holly Thaggard, is on a mission to ensure that skin is protected every single day through SPF in every product imaginable.
After Thaggard’s close friend was diagnosed with skin cancer, her curiosity concerning skin protection began. The statistics are substantial, with their website making the masses aware that “90% of skin aging is caused by daily sun exposure (think fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, discoloration).” In addition, “1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.”
The only problem is why would people wear sunscreen with all the uncomfortable formulas? Thaggard set out to create a better formula, a more attractive sunscreen, and, in 2007, Supergoop was born. Now a full-range line, Supergoop adds SPF in every product they sell from eyeshadow and CC cream to moisturizers and oils, and everything in-between. The line not only caters to face products but includes a section of recommended products for men, a body collection and a line for the “kiddos” as well. There’s an option for everyone.
With so much to choose from, they have over fifteen curated kits, which offer an easy way to get started. The kits cover everything from your festival favorites, The Getaway and Glow set, or SPF, in Bloom, a collaboration with Rebecca Taylor. The Setting Mist from the collaboration is a great way to add SPF 50 into your routine without adding an extra step and there’s no white cast, just spray to set your makeup and add SPF. It’s small, making it easy to re-apply on-the-go and covered with a purple-floral design, which is probably the real reason I picked it up at Bluemercury in the first place.
Supergoop doesn’t just protect against sun damage. Their formulas claim to provide protection against a variety of aggressors including “blue light, infrared radiation and pollution.” Truly a brand made for the skin of today’s world. I hope the next time you step outside, you at least think about putting on sunscreen.
