“I’m gonna say the one thing you aren’t supposed to say. I love you…but I love me more. I’ve been in a relationship with myself for 49 years and that’s the one I need to work on,” said Samantha Jones of HBO’s Sex and the City.
When many of us hear ‘Valentine’s Day,’ certain images come to mind: roses, red and pink hearts, romantic dinners, and our significant other — or lack thereof. When did Valentines Day begin to revolve solely around these things? And more importantly, when did we begin to feel as though we were missing out if the holiday did not consist of a rendezvous with a love interest? After all, who better to get dressed up for than ourselves?
So ladies and gentleman, I propose that for Valentines 2015, we get dressed up, send a little treat our own way and dedicate this day of love to ourselves — we certainly deserve it.
