The man, the myth, the legend himself, André Leon Talley, is finally getting his own documentary. “The Gospel According to André” is set to release May 25 according to WWD.
Formerly a SCAD Trustee member, Talley has continued to showcase his eye for fashion and how his influence reaches all corners of creative industries.
The trailer features personal stories and an inside look at his life rather than the high glamour of his public image. A touch of glamour is still present with a star-studded cast including Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Ford, and more.
Director Kate Novack dives into the personal struggles Talley dealt with in the south as a gay black man and those struggles that followed him later on. Talley was one of the first prominent black voices in the industry all the way back in the 70’s. From hanging out in Andy Warhol’s Factory in New York to becoming an editor-at-large at Vogue Magazine, his tenacious spirit and character have never wavered.
“People say to me, ‘Aren’t you that fashion guy?’ But they don’t really know what it is that I ever did,” says Talley. Well, we’ll soon find out once it graces theaters across America.
