Embroidery with a Purpose

There are 7.4 billion people on the earth as of August 2016.

Each one of these people has unique ideas, thoughts, and actions. Fashion is on the rise in popular media. Companies control the market with their logos and branding. At times it seems as if our minds are oversaturated with one or two brands or styles of clothing. The copycat fashion industry poses a threat to originality. Measures should be taken to prevent this.

I urge you to look for unique pieces of clothing. Stray away from the standard and embrace your uniqueness as an individual, reflected in your style.  Find the piece that no one else in the world has. If you feel the urge to go the extra mile, make or modify your own clothing. Try stenciling a design on a shirt, sewing together your own piece, or hand embroidering a pattern.

Here is a series of shirts that I hand embroidered over the past few weeks.

I just drew out some designs, transferred them to the shirts, and stitched away. There’s no obvious significance to the designs – I just wanted to design something that was unique to me. I discovered a lot in the process, and kept getting new ideas while doing it. Everyone just needs to keep in mind that fashion does not – and should not – have to be limited by what is popular at the moment. It can be whatever you want it to be.
