The Return of the Skinny Scarf: Wrapped Up in Nostalgia

With every Y2K trend that comes back around pulling its bedazzled punches, nothing could have prepared me for the return of the skinny scarf. A truly useless fashion accessory, in my opinion, did not warrant such a welcome foray back into fashion. Images of myself wearing spandex gauchos, platform flip flops, and a sparkly teal skinny scarf from Justice haunted my dreams, awaking me in a cold sweat.

Recently, however, I’ve had a change of heart. Like every garish fashion trend, the skinny scarf seems cool again. Oddly, I find myself to be on board. When did this happen? It seems that only yesterday I was trashing the pieces of strings gracing the necks of Lizzie McGuire, and now I’m spending my free time knitting one of my own.

While the skinny scarf is inherently pointless in terms of practicality, I’m starting to love the look of it.
