The SCAD Static Showcase opening party is a leisure affair kicking off the Savannah Fashion Weekend extravaganza. You can expect to see menswear, embroidered gowns and a variety of accessories hand-crafted in part with this year’s senior collections.
Mannequins dispersed throughout the venue offer diverse variety through color, material and constructive technical application, strategically placed with pre-existing paintings displayed on the gallery wall. Unlike the flash of a fast-paced runway show, attendees have the ability to study the elaborate detailing in the meticulous fabrication of each garment.
Upon entrance, a white tulle gown sets the pace for an arrangement of cohesive pieces displayed on an island platform in the center of the venue. Crystal encrusted platform ‘heels’ designed by Accessory Design major Ryann Ciardi are an astounding opening element to initiate the gallery walkthrough. While onlookers debate the realistic functionality of the resin-based footwear, it’s creative construction is extraordinary and perfectly cohesive with its aesthetic marriage between each garment.
Fashion majors such as Danielle Weisfeld and Ishita Wadhwa had constituent pieces of their collections on display. A clean-cut, Avant-garde hoop dress adorned tastefully with golden detailing is the result of a staggering collaboration between Weisfeld and style lab mentor Robert Verdi. Wadhwa’s white, two-piece suit reflects traditional stylistic elements of her Indian heritage. Mirrored embroidery patterns line the surface of the pristine, clean-cut linen. Emmy Adriana Davidian’s color-block sneakers inspired by modern streetwear trends complete the menswear looks situated in the far left of the gallery.
Petite hors d’oeuvres are passed, drinks are sipped and onlookers rave over the skillful garments crafted by the next generation of professional designers. Locals, faculty and students alike are welcomed to this free, weekend-long event. The 2019 Static Showcase is impeccably designed to stimulate the community’s inner creativity one garment at a time.
