SS24 Runway: Miss Sohee Gives Meaning to Forgotten Things

Sohee Park has outdone herself once more with the spring/summer collection of 2024. The Miss Sohee women’s wear brand specializes in couture fashion. The brand utilizes elegance and grace in every aspect of the show. The Miss Sohee Atelier team took on the responsibility of bringing this unworldly collection to life to present at Paris Haute Couture Week, and the viewers couldn’t be more grateful for it. The Instagram for the brand has described the collection by stating that it “exists at the intersection of timelessness and the contemporary, mirrored in the study of the female form and the art of sophisticated seduction.”

The detailing in corsetry, layers of beaded detailing, open back designs, and bold slits make this collection unforgettable. The designer mentioned her inspirations from her recent travels to Seoul, Korea and the designer’s ability to find beauty in old and neglected objects. Sohee’s goal was to bring a fresh new meaning to these forgotten objects through her ideals. The color palette is generally very soft in nature, including jewel tones, reminding the designer of cherry blossoms and magnolias due to them being the first to bloom during the spring season. One of the collections is designed with 3D Korean peonies and SWAROVSKI crystals to compliment. Mother-of-pearl jewelry boxes have been used as a reference for the shapes of the collection as well, with the mother of pearl being used as detailing for gowns with a low backless design and for handbags. You may have even noticed several models with wooden hand fans.

The dreamy appearance of the collection is apparent in the nature of the venue, thoughtfully constructed pieces, and the music during the show. The majority of the collection utilizes fabrics such as silk, velvet, and organza. The beaded and 3D embroidery, which are \ recognizable to the brand, make the detailing of each gown stand out.

The gowns remind me of the prince’s ball in Cinderella or some other enchanted fairytale. I personally adore the range of color and shapes of the gowns, the long trains, and the petal inspired drapes. My favorite was the baby pink corset dress complimented with crystals, especially because the cape has beautiful peonies on the top half. The sleeves fall off the model perfectly and the placements of the crystals on the waist and bust areas accentuate these areas in a glamorous way. The simple hairstyles and less exaggerated makeup choices helped make the collection stand out more. This collection showcased the designer’s high level of craftsmanship and ideals of preserving her cultural heritage and inspiration in the world of haute couture. This collection of all the 24 designs are arguably Miss Sohee’s best work thus far, and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for next season.
