Swimcaps infiltrated the fashion world around 2018, and not in a 1960’s swimwear commercial kind of way. Brands like Dior and Prada started decorating their couture collections with luxury swimcaps. Yes, swim caps. Like the kind of swim caps that look like they’re suffocating your scalp and that absolutely no one looks good in.
This isn’t the first time fashion designers have done something that pushes boundaries and makes waves (get it?) amongst viewers. News flash! High fashion is confusing. Who decides when something is fashionable? Who decides when ugly is just ugly, and not fashionable-ugly? What made swim camps turn camp and what would Christian Dior think of his namesake brand looking camp straight in the eye?
“Flippers and Folly” is a giddy combination of the normal use of swim caps, aquatic leisure, and high fashion. It’s fun, it’s youthful, it might be ugly! Dive in and take a look.
