When it comes to skincare products, everyone’s top priority is clear, glowing skin while sustainability falls to the back burner. As sustainability month draws to a close, here is a final roundup for your sustainable beauty routine that still treats the angry pimple on your forehead while leaving your skin as dewy as a glazed donut.
The Cleanser
One Love Organics Botanical A Facial Cleanser
Any good skincare routine begins with removing your makeup (assuming you were, in fact, wearing makeup), and a nice cleanse. Produced in the only ECOCERT®️ licensed manufacturing facility in the state of Georgia, the One Love Organics Botanical A Facial Cleanser is designed to cleanse while gently exfoliating the skin. While being a winner of Oprah’s Fall Beauty O-wards, an ECOCERT®️ certification means recyclable packaging as well as environmentally friendly production.
The Mask
Indie skincare brand Summer Fridays has one of the best aesthetics on Instagram, and is known for their signature face masks. Jet Lag Mask is for hydration, Overtime Mask for exfoliation, and R+R Mask is for an added glow. The brand recently introduced their own personal recycling program where customers can send back 5 empties in order to receive a free mini Jet Lag Mask. Sounds like a win-win to me.
The Spot Treatment
BeautyCounter Countercontrol SOS Acne Spot Treatment
For breakouts, BeautyCounter’s SOS Acne Spot Treatment is here to save the day. A targeted treatment, the salicylic acid based pimple fighter is easy to use with its tapered top. It’s also a winner of the TeenVogue Acne Awards. To top it off, BeautyCounter has actively worked to reduce their footprint through the elimination of unnecessary packaging, and a partnership with How2Recycle.
The Moisturizer
Burt’s Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream
We all need a moisturizer for hydrated skin, and Burt’s Bees has a varied collection. The Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream is perfect for those whose skin requires a little extra tender, love and care. With the main ingredient being cotton extract, it’s free of frequent skin irritants like soaps. While most of Burt’s Bees’ packaging is curbside recyclable, if problems arise they offer recycling through Terracycle, as well as practice responsible sourcing.
The MultiTasker
The ultimate multitasker, Weleda Skin Food is the go-to for hydrated, smooth and moisturized skin. Extra dry skin? Weleda. Need a dewy highlight? Weleda. Cracked elbows? Weleda. Lip Balm? Weleda. The plant-based formula has stood the test of time, originally launching in 1926. All Skin Food tubes can be recycled with Weleda’s partnership with Terracycle, similar to Burt’s Bees.
As the sustainability conversation grows, more brands are working with outside partners to produce products in an environmentally friendly way while, encouraging their consumers to recycle the empties. As we move forward, companies can create recyclable packaging but it’s up to us to make sure we complete the cycle.
